Edilberto Chiang
February 24, 1939 - August 12, 2023
Beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and husband after a brief and sudden illness.
Edilberto or ‘Beto’ Chiang was born on February 24, 1939, in Lurin, a small town on the outskirts of Lima, Peru. For years, he would fondly recall his childhood growing up in this small town and would return to visit often with his family. He later moved to the ‘big city’ of Lima where he would go on to work at his parent’s grocery store. There, he applied his keen business savviness which combined with his entrepreneurial spirit made his family grocery store flourish into a thriving business. He would continue to acquire and manage several successful businesses throughout the 70’s and 80’s in Lima and Vancouver, specifically importing household goods and toys from Japan which were considered avant-garde for its time. While he cherished memories of his youth in Peru and loved to travel the world, he lovingly called Vancouver home for over 40 years where he and his beloved wife Ana Maria raised their family.
Underneath his reserved, quiet exterior was a kind, sensitive family man with a heart of gold. His love of traveling, cars, pigeon hunting, biking, cooking, baking, photography, and other hobbies enriched the lives of his family and other loved ones. In addition to the family and friends he touched throughout his 84 years, he will always live on in the hearts of his devoted wife of 52 years, Ana Maria, his son Roberto, wife Nadia, granddaughter Zoey, daughter Joeline (Richard), and grandson Justin.Â
He is predeceased by his parents and sister Olinda. He will be missed by sisters Mina, Teresa, Justina in addition to nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral to commemorate his life will be held on Wednesday August 23 at Gardens of Gethsemani at 15694 32 Ave, Surrey, BC
